PRN Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) - IDD Population
The PRN Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to
individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), with an emphasis on
functional communication, cognitive-communication skills, and dysphagia management.
The SLP performs comprehensive assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, and
delivers evidence-based interventions to maximize independence, ensure safety, and improve
overall quality of life. Intervention is provided in home and community settings.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Assessment and Evaluation
Conduct comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, cognitive-communication, and
swallowing abilities using standardized and functional assessment tools tailored to
individuals with IDD.
Identify the need for and implement appropriate augmentative and alternative
communication (AAC) systems; assess and monitor swallowing safety, referring for
instrumental evaluations when needed.
Develop individualized, evidence-based goals and document findings clearly, ensuring
alignment with individual and family goals and best clinical practices.
B. Therapeutic Intervention
Deliver individualized, evidence-based therapy focused on functional communication,
AAC use, social interaction, and cognitive-communication skills.
Implement swallowing and feeding interventions as indicated, including diet
modifications, positioning strategies, and mealtime protocols .
Provide ongoing education and modeling for caregivers and staff to support
generalization of skills across environments.
C. Collaboration and Teamwork
Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as occupational therapists,
physical therapists, social workers, and caregivers, to ensure holistic care.
Communicate progress and therapy updates with families, guardians, or other team
members as necessary.
D. Documentation and Reporting
Maintain detailed, accurate, and up-to-date records of individual progress, therapy plans,
goals, and outcomes.
Document all therapy sessions and interactions according to regulatory and
organizational standards.
Provide reports or recommendations regarding individual progress or changes to
treatment plans.
E. Training and Education
Provide training to caregivers, family members, or staff on implementing therapy
techniques and supporting individuals in daily activities.
Educate individuals and caregivers on strategies to improve functional skills at home, in
school, or in the community.
F. Compliance
Ensure adherence to all relevant regulations, including state licensure requirements,
ethical standards, and OneWell policies.
Follow all safety protocols and promote a safe environment for individuals and staff.
Qualifications:
A. Education
Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
B. Licensing
Current and valid state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology ( CCC-SLP ) from ASHA.
C. Experience
Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) is highly preferred.
Experience in in-home or community settings providing therapeutic services is a plus.

E. Competency Requirements
Strong ability to assess, plan, and implement individualized speech, language, and
swallowing interventions for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
(IDD).
In-depth knowledge of communication disorders, cognitive-communication strategies,
and feeding or swallowing therapy techniques.
Excellent communication skills for collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, families,
and caregivers to support consistent carryover of therapy goals.
Proficiency in developing and implementing augmentative and alternative
communication (AAC) systems to promote functional communication.
Ability to educate and train caregivers, staff, and families on effective communication
strategies and mealtime safety practices.
Strong documentation and organizational skills to maintain accurate records and ensure
compliance with professional, ethical, and regulatory standards.
Compassion, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability to meet the diverse communication and
emotional needs of each individual served.
Work Environment:
PRN SLPs work in field-based settings based on the needs of the individuals served.
As a PRN therapist, you will be working on an as-needed basis, meaning hours may vary. Flexibility in scheduling is important.
This role requires travel to visit individuals in community or home settings .

Requirements
- Active Speech-Language Pathology License in Pennsylvania
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)
- Criminal background check and child abuse clearance will be completed during the onboarding process
